Box Score

HONOLULU - The No. 3 University of Hawai`i Warrior volleyball team stretched its win streak to 11 with a straight-set victory tonight over No. 10 Loyola-Chicago at the Stan Sheriff Center in a non-league contest.

Hawai`i improved to 15-4 overall in front of 4,151 fans while Loyola-Chicago fell to 16-6.

UH's Matt Carere led all attackers with 17 kills while setter Brian Beckwith handed out 51 assists. UH hit .306 to LUC's .225.

In Game 1, UH led 1-0 and never got the lead back until 20-19, falling behind LUC by as many as four points. The lead teetered until UH broke a 28 all tie with back-to-back kills by Carere to win, 30-28.

UH came out of the blocks fast in Game 2 streaking to a 4-0 lead and stretched it to as many as nine before cruising, 30-19.

For the second night in a row, the Warriors were taken to extra points in a game. UH held a four-point lead in Game 3, but LUC would not go away as the Ramblers look like they were going to send it to a fourth game leading 26-24. But the Warriors regrouped and recaptured the lead at 28-27 on a LUC attack error. Carere put UH up 33-31 and another LUC attack error gave UH the three-game sweep, taking the third game, 33-31.

Middle blockers Maulia La Barre and Dio Dante had solid nights hitting. La Barre slammed down eight kills and hit .538, while Dante posted nine kills with a .444 hitting percentage. Jose Delgado came off the bench in Game 3 to add some offense, collecting all six of his kills in that game.

Hawai`i heads to the road for its next four matches, all Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contests. UH plays two at Pacific on March 25 and 27 and two more at Stanford March 29-30.
