Blanning Shuts Out SDSU, 1-0

HONOLULU - Hawai`i pitcher Paula Blanning held off San Diego State, 1-0, to pick up her second straight complete game victory in less than a week. Blanning scattered four hits, walked four and struck out two in the game. Hawai`i (13-10) is now 2-0 in the Bank of Hawaii Invitational tournament and now faces Oklahoma State at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Hawai`i scored the game's only run in the bottom of the second. With one out, catcher Kaulana Gould hit a single back to the pitcher. She then stole second and moved to third on a ground ball hit to the right side of the infield by shortstop Valana Manuma. Designated player Kristi Yoshizawa then drew a walk to place runners at the corners. With the first and third situation, Yoshizawa got into a run-down between first and second long enough to allow Gould to score from third.

The Aztecs on the day, lost a pair of 1-0 games. In their first game of the day, SDSU lost 1-0 in eight innings to Oklahoma State.

Christina Ross took the loss for the Aztecs, throwing 6.0 innings in a complete game effort. She only allowed one run on two hits while walking one and striking out two. On offense, Erin Floros led the Aztec going 2-3 with a double. With the loss, San Diego State fell to 14-7.
