Box Score

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (11-2) defeated the No. 24 Southern California Trojans (7-7) 7-3 in front of a sold out, standing room-only crowd of 4,345 at the Les Murakami Stadium Saturday. Ian Harrington (2-1) pitched 6.0 innings, giving up two runs to get the win. USC's Ryan Cook (0-2) took the loss while Tyler Davis picked up his first save of the season.

Joseph Spiers led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, a run and a double. Kris Sanchez went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run in his first start since Feb. 2. Justin Frash added a 2-for-3 game with a run while Jonathan Hee was 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

USC took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Hawai`i then got to the Trojans in the fourth. Hee scored on a bases-loaded walk, followed by an RBI-single by Sanchez, giving the 'Bows the 2-1 edge. Luis Avila then scored on a wild pitch before Spiers capped the scoring with an RBI-single, making the Rainbow lead 4-1.

After allowing a Trojan run in the fifth, Spiers pushed the lead even further, singling in two runs to make it 6-2. Hee drove in an insurance run in the eighth, pushing it to 7-2. USC would add an unearned run in the ninth, but that was all they would get, as UH closed out the 7-3 victory.

The two teams will close out their three-game series tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. at the Les Murakami Stadium. Mark Rodrigues (1-0) is scheduled to pitch for the 'Bows against USC's Tommy Milone (3-0).
