Courtney Baughman earned her first collegiate victory for Hawai`i with a 6-3 win over Loyola Marymount (2-2). Baughman threw a complete game, giving up three runs on eight hits, one walk, and six strike outs. Offensively, UH was led by junior first baseman
Tyleen Tausaga who went 2-4 with an RBI and sophomore shortstop
Valana Manuma who was 1-3 with two runs, and an RBI.
In the first inning, Clare Warwick led off with a single to left. Three batters later, Tausaga hit a single up the middle to score Warwick, who was on second.
Manuma started things off in the third by drawing a walk. She moved to third on Tausaga's second single of the game. Tanisha Milca advanced on the second walk in the inning to move pinch runner Malamaisaua Manuma to second and load the bases. With Brandi Peiler at the plate, a wild pitch scored Valana Manuma from third and everyone moved up a base. Peiler then had a hit to third to score Malamaisaua Manuma from third, moving Milca to third. Milca eventually scored on a ground ball hit by Alana Power to make the score at the end of three 4-0.
LMU scored a single run in the fifth when Margo Pineda hit an RBI double to score Kirsten Slouber from third. UH though, added to its two runs to its lead in the sixth. Julie Franklin led the inning off with a walk and scored three batters lter when Valana Manuma smacked a sharp single up the middle. And Manuma later scored the Rainbow Wahine's sixth and final run on a Kaulana Gould single to right.
The Lions rallied the bottom of the seventh, with a two run shot over the rightfield wall by Kirsten Whitt that scored Chelsie Tysdal who had reached safely on a single to right. That narrowed the gap to 6-3, but LMU could not get any closer as Baughman settled down to eventually retire the side with no other damage.
UH will now be the first seed in the "bracket play" portion of the tournament. They will play at 11:00 am on February 12. The rest of Sunday's schedule is as follows:
