First Place Finishes And Personal Bests Established At UW Open

SEATTLE - The Hawai'i women's indoor track and field team claimed three first place finishes and two Rainbow Wahine posted personal best performances at the Washington Open #2, Sunday, at Dempsey Indoor.

The highlight of the event occurred at pole vault, where junior Tiara Krismunando placed first with a PB 3.60m (11-9.75), nearly eight inches higher than her previous best. Krismunando was not one of the team's three entries at the U.S. Pole Vault Summit in Reno during the same weekend.

The Rainbow Wahine pulled a clean sweep in the high jump as Annett Wichmann, Emily Sheppard, and Mallory Gilbert cleared 1.65m (5-5). By virtue of attempts, Wichmann took home top honors followed by Sheppard and Gilbert.

In the 20-lb. weight toss, senior Novelle Murray finished first with a heave of 16.14m (52-11.5) followed by sophomore Meghan Weaver (15.80m, 51-10). Junior Ku'ulei Karratti set a personal best in the event, tossing 13.82m (45-4) breaking her previous best by nearly three feet.

In addition, newcomer Michel Wilson was the first athlete in school history to compete in the indoor 5,000m. In the process, Wilson set the standard with a time of 19:07.22.

The Rainbow Wahine return to Honolulu to host the third of nine Sunset Meets at Cooke Field, Saturday, Feb. 4.
