HONOLULU - The seventh ranked University of Hawai`i men's volleyball team got 17 kills from Jose Delgado en route to a three-set sweep of No. 4 UC Irvine tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center in front of 3,556 fans.

Hawai`i turned the tables on the Anteaters after 48 hours earlier, UCI swept UH in three on Wednesday night.

UH was more focused tonight as they posted a 30-21, 30-22, 34-32 victory in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play. Hawai`i improved to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in league play while UC Irvine fell to 6-3 and 3-2.

The Warriors set the tempo early in Game 1. UH jumped out to a 5-1 lead and increased it to 17-10 and led by as many as nine twice. Delgado slammed eight kills in set as the Warriors outhit UCI, .333 to .167.

It was much the same story in Game 2. After the set was tied at four, UH reeled off four straight points and never looked back. UH hit a whopping .500 with 16 kills and only one error in 30 swings.

The Anteaters came out more determined in Game 3 leading 6-3 and increased it to 15-11 at the halfway point. UCI came out of a time out and took its biggest lead of the match, 19-14, before UH caught fire.

Two kills by Lauri Hakala, one by Brian Beckwith, an ace, and a UCI attack error tied it at 19.

The lead seesawed until until UCI served for the match, 32-31. But the Warriors would get kills from Dio Dante and Beckwith, closing the match on UCI's Jayson Jablonsky hitting error. Jablonsky ended up leading UCI with 17 kills on the night.

UH got a solid hitting night from Hakala who picked up 12 kills. Maulia La Barre, who made his first start of the season, added six and hit .545.

Hawai`i is off next week and returns to action Feb. 9-10 in MPSF play at Pepperdine.
