Sensley Nets 1,000 In 72-61 Victory Over Boise State

Box Score

HONOLULU - On a night when senior forward Julian Sensley joined the elusive 1,000-point club, the Hawai'i men's basketball team defeated Boise State, 72-61, Monday, in a Western Athletic Conference match-up at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Warriors (10-6, 4-2 WAC) remained unbeaten at home in WAC play, improving to 4-0.

Sensley became the 12th player in UH history to score 1,000, accomplishing that feat with 7:35 left in the game. The Kailua, Oahu native finished with a team-high 17 points, 15 of which came after halftime. In addition, Sensley became just the fourth player in school history to join the 1,000-point/500-rebound club.

Guard Matt Lojeski added 16 and a career-high nine rebounds while forward Chris Botez sparked the 'Bows off the bench with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Botez, who picked UH over Boise State out of junior college, also grabbed eight rebounds while playing for an injured Matthew Gipson.

Forward Ahmet Gueye had 12 points despite shooting for a season-low 4-of-14 from the field. Gueye struggled early, missing on nine of his first 10 attempts, but rebounded with 10 second half points.

Also in the game, BSU guard Coby Karl reached the 1,000-point milestone. Karl finished with 12 points but was held to 3-of-14 shooting. Guard Eric Lane had a team-high 15 points for the Broncos (9-8, 2-4).

UH overcame a 12-6 BSU first half lead with an 11-0 run sparked by consecutive Lojeski 3-pointers, to take a 17-12 lead. However the Broncos held UH to four points in the final six and half minutes of the half and regained the lead with a 24-23 advantage at the break. Lane led all scorers with 12 while Lojeski was UH's leading scorer with eight. Sensley and Gueye combined for 2-of-15 shooting and four points.

Gueye muscled his way out of his shooting slump with a three-point play, igniting a 13-2 run that saw UH's lead jump to 50-35 midway through the period. After the Broncos closed to within 10, Sensley stole the show scoring 10 of the team's next 12 points, including his monumental 1,000th point.

The 'Bows hit the road for the fourth time this season with games at Nevada, Jan. 28 and Utah State, Jan. 30. The USU game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 as part of the network's Big Monday telecast.
