Hawaii and Butler Play To 1-1 Draw

Box Score

WAIPAHU, HI -- Hawaii played to its second double-overtime in the last four matches, finishing with a 1-1 tie against Butler on the opening evening of the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Soccer Shootout at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The Rainbow Wahine moved to 2-4-2 and snapped a two-match skid, but remain winless (0-2-2) in its last four matches.

UH gave one of its best performances of the year but couldn't translate it into a win. The squad welcomed back four players back into the starting lineup--midfielders Jessica Domingo and Gabina Bohlman, forward Natasha Kai and defender Krisha Kai--and the difference was substantial. The Rainbow Wahine controlled much of the match and finished with a 20-7 shot advantage.

The Bulldogs (4-4-1) stunned the Rainbow Wahine by getting on the board first in the 27th minute. Kristin Harnest took a pass from Ashley Twehues in the box and sent a low-liner to the far post to put Butler up, 1-0.

It took UH just 70 seconds to answer as Bohlman scored her first goal of the season. Kelly McCloskey started the play by sending a cross to Natasha Kai deep into the box. Kai dropped the ball to Bohlman who sent a right-footed shot into the left corner of the goal.

The Rainbow Wahine continued to pepper Butler, while holding the Bulldogs without a shot for 55 minutes following their goal. UH also held the Bulldogs without a corner kick for the match, while generating six of its own. The teams, however, would play scoreless ball for the remaining 82 minutes of play.

Butler next will take on Robert Morris Saturday night at 5 p.m., while the Rainbow Wahine conclude the tournament with a match against Robert Morris on Sunday at 5 p.m.
