Trapasso Gets Win No. 100 With UH's 7-6 Win Over Nevada

Box Score

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (23-23, 10-10 WAC) defeated the Nevada Wolf Pack (20-19, 9-8) 7-6, giving UH head coach Mike Trapasso his 100th career victory, in front of a crowd of 3,007 at Les Murakami Stadium Friday. Steven Wright (4-3) got the win for the 'Bows while Darrell Fisherbaugh was able to get his second save of the year. Ryan Rodriguez (8-4) took the loss for the Pack.

Nathan Thurber led the way at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and two runs scored. Esteban Lopez again came up with timely hitting, going 1-for-3 with a two-run triple and a run while Joseph Spiers was 2-for-5 with two runs and two stolen bases.

Nevada got on the board early, scoring a run in the first and second innings to go up 2-0. But UH answered back in the bottom of the second, as Lopez hit a two-run triple to right, scoring Matthew Inouye and Thurber, to tie it at two.

The Wolf Pack again took a two-run edge after Shawn Scobee hit a two-run home run in the top of the third. The 'Bows again responded, scoring one in the third, on a RBI-single by Daniel Magana, before Thurber blasted his two-run homer, his second on the year, in the fifth to give Hawai`i their first lead.

UH added to their advantage in the sixth as Lopez scored on a wild pitch before Erik Ammon hit a RBI-double down the rightfield line, scoring Spiers to make it 7-4.

Nevada scored two more in the seventh to cut the deficit to 7-6, before Fisherbaugh and the Rainbow defense came to the rescue. Fisherbaugh went 2.1 innings, giving up just one hit and one walk while the defense came up with inning-ending-double plays in both the eighth and ninth. The last double play came on a line-drive by UN's Ben Mummy that was snagged by Magana, before he threw over to first to get the Pack runner and end the game.

The two teams will close out their series tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium.
