HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (8-8, 1-3 FHT) fell to the No. 15 Wichita State Shockers (14-1, 3-1 FHT) 3-2 on the fourth night of the First Hawaii Title Rainbow Baseball Tournament Friday.
Steven Wright (1-2) gave up an unearned run with just two hits and walk while striking out four in 2.2 innings, taking the loss. Jared Simon came on in relief for the Shockers to get the win while Noah Booth got a save.
Isaac Omura had another great day, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI. Erik Ammon went 2-for-3 with a run while Jeff Piaskowski and Luis Avila added two-hit games.
Starter Colby Summer had a good outing for the 'Bows, giving up just one earned run in 6.1 innings with four strikeouts.
The Shockers got on the board first, putting up an unearned run in the second before driving in another in the third, making it 2-0. But the 'Bows answered back in the fifth. Ammon went around the bases and scored on a wild pitch before Omura hit a two-out double down the right line, scoring Spiers, to tie the game at two.
Wichita State then scored in the top of the eighth. Hawai`i had their chances late but stranded three batters in the final two innings, keeping the final at 3-2.
Earlier in the day, Sacramento State beat South Florida 7-4 and Louisiana-Lafayette clinched the tournament title with a 6-2 win over UC Davis. The Aggies will play Sacramento State in the 10:30 a.m. game tomorrow, followed by Wichita State and South Florida at 2:30 p.m. with the Rainbows closing out the tourney against Louisiana-Lafayette.
