No. 3 Hawai`i Pulls Off First-Ever Sweep At No. 1 UCLA

LOS ANGELES - No. 3 Hawai`i pulled off its first-ever road three-game sweep at No. 1 UCLA tonight, winning at Pauley Pavilion 30-25, 30-26, 30-25.

Hawai`i (11-2, 9-1 MPSF) got a superb effort from outside hitter Matt Bender, who slammed down a match-high 16 kills while posting a lofty .625 hitting percentage.

In Game One, Pedro Azenha pounded down six kills and UH got a five more from Bender.

Game Two saw Bender added six more kills in nine swings without an error. Kyle Klinger added a spark posting four kills in as many attempts as the team hit .517 in the game.

Bender was a sharp in Game Three putting down five more kills in six swings without hitting an error.

Brian Beckwith dished out 40 assists in the match, while the Warriors hit .360 collectively as a team.

It was the third sweep of the Bruins by Hawai`i with the other two times - 1998 and 2002 - coming in Honolulu. Tonight, UCLA (15-2, 11-2 MPSF) led only briefly in Games One and Two and by no more than two points.

Hawai`i returns home for a pair of MPSF matches next week at the Stan Sheriff Center against No. 2 Pepperdine on March 2 and 4.
