NAMPA, Idaho - The 2005 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships began on Thursday for the University of Hawai'i with the women's heptathlon. Senior
Lana Phillips was the lone Rainbow Wahine to participate in the event, which was held at Jackson's Track in the Idaho Sports Center.
Phillips did not place which meant Hawai'i did not receive any points after Day 1 of the women's competition. However, she did achieve a school best time in the 60m event, finishing in 9.42.
Idaho's Manuela Kurrat took home the gold in the heptathlon after tallying 3,999 points to out-distance Katie Christianson of Fresno State (3,713) and Utah State's Carrie Yost (3,703). Future WAC members Utah State (13) and Idaho (10) rank No. 1 and 2 in the team standings.
The WAC Championships continues on Friday with a full slate of events.
