Sensley Leads UH To 78-72 Victory Over UNLV

Box Score

HONOLULU - The Hawai'i men's basketball team avenged its only loss of the season with a 78-72 victory over UNLV, Tuesday night, at the Stan Sheriff Center. Senior Julian Sensley scored a career-high 28 points as he helped the Rainbow Warriors split the rare non-conference home-and-home series with the Runnin' Rebels this season.

A "Green & White" crowd of 8,049 saw the Kailua, Oahu native rebound from being shut-out for the first time in his career, in the team's earlier meeting in Las Vegas. His 28 points came off of 10-of-15 shooting, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range. He also had four rebounds, four assists, and three steals in 38 minutes. Sensley has scored 20 or more points in all three of the team's home games this season.

Sensley was 0-of-11 shooting, while missing all six of 3-point attempts in UH's 67-61 loss in Las Vegas. He had never been shut-out of a game in his previous 63 games as a Rainbow Warrior.

Guard Matt Lojeski added 15 points and forward Ahmet Gueye recorded 13 points and eight rebounds. Senior guard Deonte Tatum matched his career-high of nine points. The 'Bows shot 51 percent from the field despite committing 20 turnovers.

UH opened the game on a 10-3 run and maintained a lead throughout the first half. UH built leads of 24-14 and 32-21 before the Rebels closed to five at the break.

In the second half, UNLV's Michael Umeh's trey closed the gap to 39-36. But moments later, Sensley scored eight straight points, including two treys, to push the Hawai'i lead to 55-42 with 12:01 to play.

The Rebels slowed inched their way back, closing to within 65-59 with under five minutes to play. But the 'Bows, who shot only 33 percent from the free throw line in the earlier loss, converted 10-of-11 down the stretch to hang on.

UH leaves on Thursday for Milwaukee, Wisc., where they face UW-Milwaukee, Saturday, Dec. 10. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. CST at the U.S. Cellular Arena. The game can be heard on the radio on Sportradio 1420am with Bobby Curran calling the action.
