Box Score

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Hawai'i offense gained more than 500 total yards and quarterback Colt Brennan completed 36-of-48 passes for 457 yards and three touchdowns to help the Warriors win their second straight Western Athletic Conference game, 45-38, against San Jose State Saturday at Spartan Stadium.

It was a tale of two coaches, Hawai'i skipper June Jones against former Warrior head coach Dick Tomey. But the student got the best of the teacher on this day. Jones' Run-and-Shot offense gained 519 total yards, and put up 45 points for the second straight week.

The "Three Amigos", receivers Ryan Grice-Mullen, Davone Bess, and Chad Mock, all finished over the century mark, again for the second week in a row. Mock led the pack with 11 receptions (104 yards), while Bess snagged nine passes for 102 yards and two scores. Grice-Mullen hauled in five passes for 125 yards and one touchdown, and also gained 18 yards and scored a touchdown on the ground.

Hawai'i (3-4, 3-2 WAC) scored 31 first-half points, 14 off three San Jose State turnovers to take a 31-21 lead going into the locker room. The Warrior defense stepped up when linebacker Tanuvasa Moe forced a fumble to halt a Spartan drive that reached the Hawai'i 1-yard line. Brennan completed 20-of-24 passes for 299 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.

San Jose State (1-6, 0-4 WAC) tied the score at 38 when Al Guidry rushed for a 25-yard touchdown with 8:57 left to play. But the Warriors answered with a 10-play, 8-yard drive. Brennan completed 6-of-8 passes and running back Nate Ilaoa, who led the Warriors with 39 yards (13 attempts), scampered in from seven yards out to put Hawai'i up for good, 45-38, at the 5:26 mark.

San Jose State managed to drive to midfield, but Warrior safety Dane Porlas intercepted Spartan quarterback Adam Tafralis with 48 ticks remaining to end the drive. Cornerback Turmarian Moreland led Hawai'i with a career-high 11 tackles and grabbed his second pick in as many games. Safety Lamar Broadway finished with a career-best 10 tackles.

The Warriors return home for a WAC contest against Fresno State (5-1, 3-0 WAC) who is in a three-way tie for the WAC regular season title. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Aloha Stadium.
