OREM, Utah -- Hawaii got back on the winning track with a 1-0 win over Utah Valley State in a non-conference match Monday afternoon at Wolverine Soccer Field. The Rainbow Wahine improved to 7-7-2 with the win.
UH scored 10 minutes in to the match and the score would hold through the rest of the match. Playing their third road match in four days, the Rainbow Wahine showed signs of fatigue near the end of the match, but battled through to pick up their second road win of the year and rebound from Sunday's disappointing conference loss at Utah State. UH has won four of its last five matches, while UVSC (3-10) lost its fifth straight.
UH got on the board early, scoring off a corner kick in the 10th minute. Shawn Higa found Adria Campbell at the far post as Campbell hammered home a header for her second goal in as many matches. The remainder of the half was uneventful as the teams combined for seven total shots, with Campbell's score the only shot on goal.
UH played its second straight match without top scorer Natasha Kai as her sister Krisha Kai got the starting nod up front. The Rainbow Wahine out-shot the Wolverines, 13-10, while Kori Lu and Mahie Atay combined for the shutout win.
The Rainbow Wahine next travel to California to round out their four-match road trip with a WAC meeting against San Jose State, Friday, Oct. 21 . Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. PDT.
