Dons Break 'Bows' Eight-Game Winning Streak 14-1

Box Score

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (9-6) had their eight-game winning streak halted with a 14-1 loss to the San Francisco Dons (4-7) in the second game of Saturday's double-header at the Les Murakami Stadium. Stephen Bryant (1-1) took the loss for the 'Bows while Derek Tate got the win for USF.

The bright spot of the loss was the play of UH back-up shortstop Troy Hanzawa, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI while making four great plays at shortstop. Jaziel Mendoza was 1-for-2 with a double and a run.

The Dons came out on fire, scoring all 14 runs in the first four innings of the game, including five in the first, three in the third and five more in the fourth.

Hawai`i got their run in the seventh, when Hanzawa drove in Mendoza.

The two teams will play the rubber-match tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. with Clary Carlsen (2-2) starting against T.J. Franco (1-1).
