Stanford, CA -The No. 2 Warriors domination of No. 9 Stanford was so complete that Hawai`i needed just over an hour to prevail over the Cardinals, 3-0 (30-19, 30-14, 30-19). On the Cardinals home turf, Hawai`i hit .519 while keeping Stanford to a mere .075. The Warriors, who are on a 5-0 run, are now 7-2 on the season and 4-1 in MPSF play.
Junior outside hitter Delano Thomas led the Warriors in kills with 14 (.391); Thomas also had two kills, five digs and one block assist. But it was middle blocker Mauli`a LaBarre who shone on in the match. LaBarre hit 1.000 to end the evening, knocking down 11 kills in as many swings. LaBarre also had eight blocks in the match, including a career high four solo blocks. Outside hitter Jose Delgado and middle blocker Josh Stanhiser both had nine kills on the night.
In game one, the Warriors dominated as the Cardinal scrambled to defend their home turf. The Hawai`i offense was on fire, hitting their way to a .593 percentage in game one. Delano Thomas led the way in game one with seven kills on the Warriors way to an easy 30-19 win in game one.
Stanford kept it to a close 3-3 to start game two, but the Warriors soon showed the 679 Cardinal fans present why they are the No. 2 team in the country. Hawai`i jumped ahead by four and continued to dictate the pace of the game, taking an 18-9 lead before crushing the Cardinal, 30-14. In game two the Warrior defense held the Cardinal to a .000 hitting percentage, while the Warrior offense hit a cool .500.
The Warriors could not be stopped by game three and they cruised to a 30-19 win. In game three LaBarre who had already hit six for six, put down five more to lead Hawai`i to victory.
The Warriors will return to Maples Pavilion Saturday night to once again take on the Cardinal of Stanford at 7:00pm (PST).
