RENO, Nev. - The Unversity of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (26-22, 7-16 WAC) fell to the Nevada Wolf Pack (26-19, 14-5 WAC) 10-5 in front of a crowd of 1,067 at Peccole Park Friday.
Christopher George (7-6) took the loss for UH while J.T. Sherman (7-4) got the win for Nevada.
Joshua Green went 3-for-4 for UH, just a day after his fiancee gave birth to their new daughter, Madison. Brian Finegan went 3-for-5, hitting his first home run of the year, while finishing with two runs and one RBI. Jaziel Mendoza also went 3-for-5 with a run and one RBI. Brent Cook added a 2-for-5 game with one RBI and one run while Matthew Inouye finished 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Finegan opened the game with a lead-off home run before Mendoza and Inouye added RBI-singles in the top of the first, putting the Rainbows up 3-0. But Nevada came back and ran up six runs in the bottom of the second to reverse the tables and take a three-run lead of their own.
The Wolf Pack would then add two more runs in the fourth inning on a two-run shot by Kevin Kouzmanoff over the left-center wall.
Cook would then drive in and score a run in the top of the seventh, cutting the lead back to 8-5. But Nevada wasn't done as Jacob Butler hit a two-run home run in the bottom half of the inning, setting the final score at 10-5.
The two teams will close out the series tomorrow with Keahi Rawlins pitching for Hawai`i against Nevada's Eddie Bonine. Game time is set for 1 p.m. PDT at Peccole Park.
