HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (5-1) defeated the Sacramento State Hornets (5-3) 2-0 in front of a crowd of 2,494 at the Les Murakami Stadium Saturday.
Justin Cayetano (1-0) gave up no runs and just three hits in eight innings of work to get the win for UH, while Chris Kinsey (1-1) picked up the loss for Sacramento State.
Clary Carlsen also picked up his second save of the season.
Joshua Green led the way for the Rainbows going 2-for-4 with an RBI double. Brian Bock added a 1-for-3 night with an RBI while Brent Cook and Jaziel Mendoza both went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base. Brian Finegan continued his strong hitting, going 2-for-3 with a double, extending his hitting streak to six games.
Hawai`i got on the board early when Bock drove in Mendoza in the bottom of the second to go up 1-0.
That was all that Cayetano would need as the senior finished with six strikeouts while retiring the final 10 batters he faced.
Green would add an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI double before Carlsen ended the game with a two-strikeout ninth inning.
Hawai`i and Sacramento State will close out their three-game series tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. Ricky Bauer is scheduled to pitch for UH while Steve Cuckovich is penciled in for the Hornets.
