HONOLULU -- The No. 3 University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine (8-0) defeated the Cal Poly Mustangs (1-7) 30-16, 30-18 and 30-20 in front of a crowd of 6,910 at the Stan Sheriff Center Saturday.
Hawai`i was led by the play of Kim Willoughby, who had 21 kills, 11 digs and three aces while hitting a season-high .606. Lauren Duggins added 10 kills, nine digs, two aces and a .438 hitting percentage while Lily Kahumoku made a triumphant return to the lineup with 10 kills in just two games.
Karin Lundqvist continued her solid play, adding eight kills and four blocks while hitting .614, while Susie Boogaard (six kills) and Nohea Tano (five kills, .556 hitting percentage) played well on the right. Margaret Vakasausau also played well with 30 assists, eight digs and three kills.
As a team, UH hit .461 to Cal Poly's .170 while continuing their solid defensive play with 61 digs to the Mustangs' 25.
Molly Duncan and Jessica Diepersloot led the way for Cal Poly with seven kills apiece while Worthy Lien continued to play well at the net with four blocks.
Hawai`i will next host the Samorodok Club team from Russia on Tuesday, Sept. 17, in an exhibition match. They will then host Houston on Friday, Sept. 20, and St. Mary's on Saturday, Sept. 21. All three matches will be held at the Stan Sheriff Center with all three starting at 7 p.m.
