Malott Again Has Hawai`i's Number As San Jose State Beats the 'Bows 8-1

Box Score

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (15-29, 4-14) fell to the San Jose State Spartans (36-13, 14-7) 8-1 in front of 485 fans at the Municipal Stadium. Mike Malott (6-2) got the win while Chris George (5-4) picked up the loss for UH.

Malott, who had a complete game one-hitter against the Rainbows in Hawai`i, pitched another gem against the 'Bows. Malott again had a complete game, giving up just two hits and only one unearned run to earn the victory.

The Spartans got on the board first, scoring a run in the second inning off two consecutive doubles by Bryan Baker and Kevin Frandsen.

The Rainbows again found themselves in trouble in the third inning but George got the 4-6-3 double play to get the 'Bows out of the inning without giving up another run.

The Rainbows were able to score a run on an error in the fourth inning, but Frandsen hit a home run out to left field before a Rainbow error gave San Jose State another run to put the Spartans up 4-1.

The Spartans then added two more runs on a Travis Becktel single in the sixth, then getting another in the seventh to go up 7-1.

San Jose State added an insurance run in the eighth inning to take the game 8-1.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow with a 1 p.m. PDT start. Jahseam George will get the start for San Jose State with Sean Yamashita going for Hawai`i.
