Rainbow Wahine Rout Fresno State

Box Score

FRESNO, Calif.—The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine basketball team played its trademark defense and got inspired play from its bench to race past Fresno State, 66-47, Thursday at North Gym. The Rainbow Wahine improved to 18-6 overall and 11-4 in conference.

UH limited Fresno State to just 28 percent shooting and recorded seven blocks in sending the Lady Bulldogs (9-16, 4-11 WAC) to its seventh loss in the last eight games. The Rainbow Wahine extended its win streak to 14 games over Fresno State.

The Rainbow Wahine bench, meanwhile, gave perhaps its best performance of the season. UH went to its reserves early and often and it paid off. Christa Brossman scored a season-high 14 points, while freshman forward Kim Willoughby added seven points, two blocks and a team-high 11 rebounds. Jade Abele recorded eight point and two blocks.

The game also marked the return of April Atuaia. The sophomore guard, who suffered a torn left ACL on January 26 versus the same Lady Bulldog squad, saw her first action in seven games and logged in five minutes.

Fresno State scored the game's first two points, but after that it was all UH. Chelsea Wagner hit a 3-pointer to open the Rainbow Wahine scoring and UH never trailed again. Wagner capped the half with another 3-pointer as UH took a 38-20 lead into the locker room. UH shot a sizzling 52 percent in the half, while Fresno State hit just 27 percent of its shots.

UH kept the pressure on in the second half and led by as many as 25 points. The Rainbow Wahine held Fresno State's leading scorers Lindsay Logan and Omelogo Udeze to a combined 13 points. Freshman Aritta Lane led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Hawaii rounds out its regular season road trip with a date against Nevada on Sunday, February 24. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. PST.
