HONOLULU – A first half 3-point barrage lifted Hawaii past Boise State, 67-56, Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Warriors continue to lead the WAC standings with the victory as they improved to 18-3 overall and 9-1 in league play.

Hawaii used seven 3-pointers, four by sharp shooter Mike McIntyre, in the opening period to take a 37-28 halftime lead. The senior guard finished with 14 points off the bench to increase his 3-point total to 14 in the last three games.

Predrag Savovic once again led the 'Bows with 20 points, his eighth 20-point game of the season and third straight. He also sank three treys and grabbed eight rebounds. Mindaugas Burneika pitched in with 10 points in a reserve role.

After two ties and nine lead changes through the first 12:00 of the game, McIntyre and the 'Bows got hot, pushing its lead to as much as 12. McIntyre drained consecutive treys, to put UH ahead 20-15, forcing Boise State head coach Rod Jensen to call a timeout.

But after a Brooke Nabors jumper, McIntyre was at it again, drilling two more treys, a 25-footer and the other deep in the left corner to give Hawaii a 29-19 cushion. Savovic answered with consecutive 3-pointers of his own as the 'Bows built a 37-25 lead.

The Broncos opened the second half with a 7-2 run, capped by an Abe Jackson 3-pointer, to cut the Hawaii lead to 39-35. Martin ended that run with a putback banker. But after a Savovic jumper put UH ahead 43-37, the teams would each score just once over the next seven minutes.

With UH holding a slim 46-44 advantage, Savovic connected on his third trey followed by a McIntyre jumper to put the 'Bows ahead 51-44. Hawaii maintained their lead late and finished the game by making 12-of-16 free throws with under 2:00 to play.

Jackson led the Broncos with 21 points to add to his 27 in the teams earlier meeting in Boise.

The 'Bows next play host to UTEP, Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Stan Sheriff Center. The game will be televised live on KFVE-TV and broadcast on KCCN Rainbow Sports Radio (1420 AM).
