Former German national team assistant coach Anton Willert begins his first season as the Warriors’ team manager and video coordinator. The Berlin, Germany native is currently finishing his master’s degree in communicology at UH.
He comes to UH after spending the 2009-11 season as an assistant with the German junior national team, and coached current Warrior JP Marks. Also during that time, he served as an assistant coach with 1st Division VC Olympia volleyball club in Germany.
Prior to that, he was the head coach at the 3rd Division BBSC volleyball club from 2008-10. Under his tenure, the club won the Berlin-Brandenburg regional championship in 2009.
As a player, Willert was an outside hitter and libero and a member of four German championship teams for BTSC volleyball club. A 2007 graduate of Coubertin-Gymnasium, his team took third place at the High School World Championship in Cyrus in 2006.
Willert holds two bachelor’s degrees from Freie University in Berlin and from the University of Potsdam in Brandenburg. He earned both degrees in 2011.
Willert is single and resides in Honolulu. He enjoys surfing and extreme sports.
