COACHING HIGHLIGHTS

  • Returned to coaching the cornerbacks in 2022 after overseeing the running backs unit in 2021.
  • Part of a staff that led UH to a program-record four straight bowl bids.
  • Coached a cornerback unit in 2020 that helped UH finish in the top 25 nationally in interceptions (17th) and passing yards allowed (21st).
  • Guided more than a half dozen former Warrior defensive backs to professional contracts including Trayvon Henderson of the Cincinnati Bengals and recent free-agent signees Cortez Davis (Denver Broncos) and Eugene Ford (Jacksonville Jaguars). 
  • Has mentored five all-Mountain West defensive backs: Cortez Davis (2019-21), Rojestermann Farris II (2018, '19), Trayvon Henderson (2016), Jalen Rogers (2016), and Nick Nelson (2015). 
  • Has coached two defensive backs that won UH's Bob Wagner Defensive MVP: Trayvon Henderson (2016) and Rojesterman Farris II (2019).
  • Helped UH to a 10-5 record and its first ever Mountain West divisional title in 2019.
  • One of 60 coaches selected to participate in the 2016 NCAA/NFL Football Academy in Tampa, Florida.
  • In his first season at UH in 2015, the secondary allowed just one opponent to pass for better than 300 yards, while cornerback Nick Nelson finished top 5 in the conference in passes defended.
  • In the final game of the 2015, assumed defensive play-calling duties against Louisiana Monroe.
  • Prior to UH, spent one year at Simon Fraser University, where he was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach during the 2014 campaign.
  • Coached linebacker Jordan Herdman who was named GNAC Defensive Player of the Year.
  • Served as a graduate assistant at Washington State under Mike Leach in 2012, where he assisted with the defensive backs.
  • In the summer of 2012 held a minority internship position with the NFL's Green Bay Packers, assisting with defensive backs.  
  • Also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at SMU under June Jones, his former coach at UH, assisting with the defensive secondary. Member of the 2010 Armed Forces Bowl and 2011 BBVA Compass Bowl teams.
  • Began coaching career in 2007 as the defensive coordinator for his alma mater, Crenshaw High School, helping guide the Cougars to a 14-1 record, a Los Angeles City Championship and to the Open State California State Championship game. 
  • Mentored a number of Division I players, including De'Anthony Thomas (Oregon), Marcus Martin (USC), Hayes Pullard (USC), Greg Ducre (Washington), and Noel Grigsby (San Jose State).

PLAYING HIGHLIGHTS

  • Four-year UH letterman (2001-04) compiled a 36-17 career record and logged three Hawai‘i Bowl appearances, including victories in 2003 and ’04.
  • Upon completion of his career, ranked fourth on the all-time career interceptions list (12) and 18th in career tackles (189). Remains tied for the school’s single-game interception record with three against UTEP.
  • First-team all-WAC pick as a senior and also appeared as a starter in the 2005 Senior Bowl.
  • Signed as a free agent with the San Diego Chargers in 2005 and the Chicago Bears in 2006.
  • Played professionally for NFL Europe’s Amsterdam Admirals in 2006 and ’07. During the 2007 season, started every game at cornerback and led the team in pass breakups.
