Biography

2019 (Graduate Student):
  • Appeared in 16 games out of the bullpen in final collegiate season.
  • Finished season with a 2-2 record and a 4.62 ERA in 25.1 innings of work.
  • Struck out 12 as opposing hitters batted .263.
  • Began the season with three strikeouts in 2.0 scoreless innings versus Portland in the season opener (Feb. 15).
  • Earned the win against Longwood (March 3) after pitching 2.2 scoreless innings.
  • Picked up the the win against Oregon (March 7), tossing two scoreless innings without giving up a hit while striking out two.

  • Earned a three-inning save, going three scoreless inning with six strikeouts in a win over Air Force (Feb. 17).
  • Gave up just one unearned run and had three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work versus BYU (Feb. 23)
  • Helped UH to a 7-6 win over Illinois State (March 17), giving up one run in two innings.

  • Appeared in nine games, all in relief.
  • Finished with a 1-1 record and 6.08 ERA with seven strikeouts and four walks in 13.1 innings.
  • Pitched 1.1 shutout innings to hold a one-run lead in a win vs. San Francisco (Feb. 25).
  • Worked 2.2 scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts and one walk against Indiana (March 17).
  • Earned his first career win against San Jose State (March 24), going a season-long 3.1 innings with two strikeouts and one walk, while allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits.

  • Played his sophomore season at Orange Coast College, logging a 1-1 record and 4.26 ERA in nine appearances, while recording 16 strikeouts in 31.2 innings.
  • Began his collegiate career at Arizona State, redshirting in 2014.
  • Selected for the ASU Scholar Baller Award in Fall 2014…transferred to Central Arizona College for the 2015 season, going 3-1 with a 2.81 ERA through nine appearances, striking out 21 in 25.2 innings.
  • Played summer ball with the Victoria Harbourcats (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada), helping the team to a West Coast League season record at 40-14.
  • Pitching for Victoria, posted a 3.81 ERA with a 1-0 record and two saves in 14 appearances, striking out 14 in 28.1 innings.

  • A 2013 graduate of Whittier Christian High School (La Habra, Calif.), where he played three years of varsity baseball and was a two-year letterman in basketball.
  • Helped WCHS to a 2011 Olympic League Championship…a two-time team captain (2012-13) and was a two-time winner of the Coach’s Varsity Baseball Award (2011-12).
  • Named the 2013 Olympic League MVP after leading the league with 69 strikeouts and 1.85 ERA (league-best 0.51 in OL play) in 56.2 innings.
  • Tabbed five wins in 11 appearances with five complete games.
  • Led the Olympic League and set a school record with a .463 batting average, helping him to a league-leading .573 on-base percentage in 104 plate appearances.
  • Was selected as a senior for first-team all-Olympic League, first-team all-Area, second-team all-CIF Division 5, Whittier Area All-Star, WCHS MVP, and Cy Young Pitcher of the Year honors.
  • Also received the 2012 Coach’s Award Varsity Basketball and was MVP of freshman/sophomore basketball team.

  • Earned CIF Athletic Excellence Scholar Award, the 2012 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award for WCHS and was the 2012 American Legion Boy’s State Delegate.

  • Parents are Blair and Shelley Ashworth of Placentia, Calif.
  • Nephew of 1976 overall No. 1 MLB Draft pick Floyd Bannister, who was named Sporting News College Player of the Year at Arizona State and went on to a 15-year MLB career, becoming the 1982 American League strikeout leader and an MLB All-Star.
  • Another uncle, Greg Cochran, played at Arizona State and went on to a seven-year professional career after being selected in the second round of the 1975 MLB Draft.
  • Cousin of Brian Bannister, who played five MLB seasons and is an assistant pitching coach for the Boston Red Sox.
  • Another cousin, Cory Bannister, played baseball at Stanford.
  • Cousin Amanda Borden was a Gold Medalist and Olympian gymnast.
  • Other cousins competed in college athletics across California; Jenna Oltmanns played women’s soccer at Cal Sate Fullerton, Kimmie Oltmanns played women’s soccer at St. Mary’s, and Darren Witty played men’s soccer at Cal Baptist.
