Rusty McNamara

Rusty McNamara has been an assistant coach for Hawai'i since 2011. He assists with hitting, coaches the catcher, and is also the third base box coach for the 'Bows.

McNamara came to Hawai‘i after coaching three seasons at UC Riverside. During his time at UCR, McNamara was the hitting coach, first-base coach and was also in charge of outfielders.

During his time with the Highlanders, UCR won over 30 games in both 2009 and ’10 and boasted team batting averages of .294 and .311 in those two seasons.

While at UCR, the Oklahoma State graduate coached with two summer league teams. In 2009, McNamara was the manager of the Rochester Honkers, the Northwoods League champions. He was named the Northwoods League Manager of the Year while his team was ranked the fourth best summer league team in the nation by Rivals.com. During the summer of 2008, McNamara was the head assistant coach for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in the Alaska Baseball League.

McNamara started his collegiate playing career at Riverside Community College, earning all-conference and all-region honors. He then transferred to Oklahoma State where he was named first-team all-Big 12 and third-team All-American.

McNamara was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 21st round of the Major League Baseball Draft. After college, he played six years in the Phillies organization and was named to five minor league all-star teams.Â
