SERIES INFORMATION
- Hawai‘i won for the fourth time in the last five meetings between the teams.
- It was UH’s fourth win in 14 visits to Fort Collins and second in its last three games there.
- This was the first time in the last five meetings that the game was decided by double-digits.
- Colorado State still holds a 16-13 overall advantage in the series.
- The game marked the final meeting as conference members as CSU will move to the Pac-12 following this season.
- The teams met eight times in Mountain West play with the Rams winning five of those eight games. From 1981-97, the schools played each other all but two years as members of the Western Athletic Conference.
UH IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST
- UH improved to 37-70 (.346) all-time in the MW, including 16-36 (.308) on the road.
- Timmy Chang is 11-16 in MW games with a 4-9 mark on the road.
TEAM STREAKS/TRENDS
- UH won its third straight game, the longest such streak in the Timmy Chang era and UH’s longest win streak since the 2019 squad won four straight games.
- UH has won three of its last four Mountain West road games dating back to last season.
- Hawai‘i has had at least one player with 5+ receptions in 24 consecutive games, dating back to November 2023, tied for the longest FBS streak in the country with Utah State.
INDIVIDUAL STREAKS/TRENDS
- After hitting a 26-yard field goal in the third quarter, Kansei Matsuzawa improved to a perfect 20-of-20 on the season.
- Dating back to last season, Matsuzawa has made 21 straight field goals, setting a new UH record for consecutive field goals made, surpassing former UH All-American Jason Elam who nailed 20 straight within the 1989 season. Elam was in attendance at the game.
- Matsuzawa has had at least one field goal made in all eight games this year.
- Pofele Ashlock has caught a pass in all 32 games he has played in.
- Ashlock has had multiple receptions in 23 straight games, tied for the seventh-longest active streak in the country.
- Karsyn Pupunu, Jalen Smith and Jamih Otis each played in their 33rd straight game, tied for the longest streak on the team.
INDIVIDUAL CHARTS
- Kansei Matsuzawa added one more field goal and remains in eighth on the UH all-time field goals made list with 32.
- His 20 field goals this year is tied for the second most in a single-season (Jason Elam, 1989) and is just one off the record of 21 held by Richard Spelman (1984).
TEAM NOTES
- With a 12-game schedule, UH became bowl eligible after notching its sixth win. It is the earliest on the calendar that UH has gained bowl eligibility since the 2007 team reeled off seven straight wins by Oct. 12 (13-game schedule).
- At 6-2, UH is off to its best start through eight games since 2018 (6-2).
- UH scored better than 30 points for the third straight game. The last time that happened was in 2019 (45 at New Mexico, 38 vs. Fresno State, 42 vs. San Jose State).
- UH had a season-high six sacks. It was the team’s highest sack total since a road win at Nevada on Nov. 4, 2023.
- UH rushed for a season high 134 yards, eclipsing last week’s 133 yards versus Utah State.
- UH did not allow a sack for the second straight road game.
- UH forced a CSU fumble late in the second quarter as the Rainbow Warrior defense has at least one takeaway in seven of eight games this year.
- UH committed a season-low three penalties.
- UH surrendered a punt return for a touchdown for the first time in nine years after Javion Kinnard’s 91-yard return as the first quarter expired (last time - Londell Lee, UT Martin, 79 yards, Sept. 10, 2016).
- It was the second-longest punt return ever by a UH opponent, just one yard shy of Quinton Jones’ (Boise State) 92-yard return in 2005.
- After entering the game with no rushing touchdowns through its first five games of the season, UH has scored at least one rushing touchdowns in each of the last three games (5 total).
- After picking up just one road win in his first 15 tries, Timmy Chang has now won three of his last four road contests (Fresno State, Air Force, Colorado State).
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Jackson Harris logged his third straight 100-yard receiving game, finishing with five catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
- He is the first UH player to have three straight 100-yard receiving games since John Ursua did it four straight times to start the 2018 season.
- Harris has a combined four touchdowns in UH’s last two road games, both of them in the state of Colorado (at Air Force, at CSU)
- Harris scored his second touchdown of better than 70 yards this season with a 75-yard catch in the second quarter to give UH a 14-7 lead.
- Micah Alejado finished with 301 yards passing for his third straight game of at least 300 passing yards.
- The last player to have three straight 300-yard games was Brayden Schager during the 2023 season.
- Alejado notched three touchdown passes for the third straight time.
- Alejado is the only FBS quarterback to throw for 300-plus yards and three TDs in three consecutive games this year.
- Nick Cenacle scored his first touchdown of the season with a 17-yard catch from Micah Alejado on UH’s opening drive of the game.
- Karsyn Pupunu tallied a career high in receiving yards (56), while tying his career mark for receptions (5).
- Cam Barfield scored his second rushing touchdown of the season on a career-long 35-yard run in the fourth quarter.
- Jamih Otis set a career high with a team-high 12 tackles while also forcing a fumble for the second straight game.
- Senior Tariq Jones had two sacks for his first multiple-sack game of his career.
- Jackie Johnson III and Luther McCoy were also in on multiple sacks (1.5).
- Billy Gowers tied his season-long with a 67-yard punt in the first quarter.
