SERIES INFORMATION
  • Sam Houston won the first-ever meeting between the squads.
  • The teams are scheduled to play again next season (Sept. 6) in Honolulu.
 
 UH VERSUS CONFERENCE USA
  • UH dropped to 39-19 (.672) all-time against current members of Conference USA.
 
TEAM STREAKS/TRENDS
  • UH has lost its last five non-conference road games with its last victory at New Mexico State in 2021. Four of those five losses have come by double-digits.
 
INDIVIDUAL STREAKS/TRENDS
  • Brayden Schager made his 25th straight start at quarterback dating back to 2022, tying the second-longest streak in school history with Garrett Gabriel (1989-90). He is just one start shy of tying the record of 26 straight starts held by Bryant Moniz from 2009-11.
  • Peter Manuma owns the longest starting streak on the defensive side of the ball with 24 straight starts at safety dating back to his freshman season in 2022.
  • Pofele Ashlock has caught a pass in all 16 games of his career.
 
TEAM NOTES
  • UH dropped to 1-12 on the road and 0-3 following bye weeks under TImmy Chang.
  • UH committed 14 penalties for 122 yards. It was the most penalties by UH since an Oct. 2, 2004 win over Tulsa (15 for 142 yards).
  • After allowing an average of 87.5 yards rushing through its first two games, UH surrendered 257 yards on the ground by the Bearkats.
  • Jay Ducker’s 87 yard run in the third quarter was the first run longer than 20 yards this season by a UH opponent.
  • UH surrendered a touchdown on its opponent’s opening drive for the first time this year when the Bearkats went 75 yards for a touchdown.
  • The Warriors registered their first fumble recovery of the season when Elijah Robinson forced a fumble that was recovered by Kilinahe Mendiola-Jensen in the first quarter.
  • The Warriors registered their longest pass play of the season when Brayden Schager connected with Dekel Crowdus for a 52-yard gain in the second quarter. The catch helped set up a 33-yard field goal for UH’s first points of the game.
  • UH ended a string of five straight quarters without a touchdown with a 5-yard Pofele Ashlock reception to cap UH’s first drive of the second half. UH last scored a TD on its opening drive of the UCLA game.
 
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • Brayden Schager became just the fourth UH quarterback to surpass 7,000 yards passing for his career. With 252 yards against SHU, he now has 7,187 career passing yards.
  • Schager also added 22 yards of rushing and now has 7,294 career yards of total offense, surpassing Chevan Cordeiro for fifth all-time at UH.
  • Schager also tied Cordeiro for sixth all time on the UH passing touchdown list with 45 following his 5-yard TD toss to Pofele Ashlock in the third quarter.
  • It was Ashlock’s second TD of the season and 11th of his career.  The sophomore has scored at least one touchdown in eight of his 16 career games.
  • Kansei Matsuzawa went 2-of-3 on field goals, converting on tries of 33- and 27- yards, while missing a 41-yard attempt. The junior kicker is 4-of-5 on the season on field goal attempts.
  • Cam Stone recorded his second career interception as a Rainbow Warrior with a third-quarter pick of Hunter Watson.
  • Lucas Borrow averaged 52.5 yards per punt with three of his four attempts going for 50+ yards. For the season, Borrow is averaging 46.4 yards per punt with seven of his 17 attempts going for 50 or more yards. 
  • Three Rainbow Warriors made their first career starts: James Milovale (OL), Daniel “Sauce” Williams (DL) and Jaheim Wilson-Jones (CB).
  • Wilson-Jones finished with a career-best six tackles and one pass breakup. The six tackles co-led the team.
  • Junior defensive lineman Jackie Johnson III registered a career high five tackles, while Justin Sinclair also finished with five tackles in his first start of the season and second of his career.
