2021-22 HAWAI'I MEN'S TENNIS 

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

• Hawai'i finished 2022 with 12 wins, the most for a UH men's team since recording 12 wins in 2010.

• It marked its third-straight winning season, which is the longest streak since UH had 12-straight winning seasons between 1981-92.

• Hawai'i earned an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) ranking as a team for the first time since 2012. The Rainbow Warriors debuted at No. 75 on March 23, rose as high as No. 64, and remained ranked until April 26.

• UH reeled off an eight-match win streak--the longest streak since UH won 14 consecutive matches in 2000 under legendary head coach Jim Schwitters.

• Hawai'i advanced to the Big West semifinals for the second straight season and for the third time overall since joining the conference in 2013.

• During the regular season, 75th-ranked Hawai‘i upset No. 53 UC Santa Barbara, 4-3 on Senior Day. The win snapped a five-match losing streak to the Gauchos dating bak to 2015. UCSB, the Big West's perennial power, has won seven of the last eight BWC titles.

• Junior Andre Ilagan had a banner season becoming the most decorated Rainbow Warrior tennis player ever. The Honolulu native achieved the highest ITA ranking (No. 11) ever by a UH player while becoming just the second Rainbow Warrior to earn a bid the the NCAA Singles Championship. 

A RETURN TO THE RANKINGS

After winning eight straight matches, the 'Bows entered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings at No. 75. It was the first time since February, 28, 2012 that the men have appeared in the poll. It also was the first time under third-year head coach Joël Kusnierz that the men received a ranking.

2022 BIG WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARDS 

For just the third time since the Rainbow Warriors joined the Big West Conference, UH earned a program-best four BWC Player of the Week Awards in 2022. It was the first weekly conference awards for both junior Simão Telo Alves and sophomore Guillaume Tattevin. Andre Ilagan was twice voted BWC Player of the Week, bringing his career total to six for the junior.

2022 BIG WEST TOURNAMENT

The Rainbow Warriors entered the 2022 Big West Championship as the fourth seed. In their opening match, the ‘Bows swept UC Riverside, 4-0 to advance tot he semifinals at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.. Hawai‘i's season however came to a close after falling in the semi’s to 55th-ranked UC Santa Barbara, 4-1.

ANDRE ILAGAN'S HISTORIC SEASON

ILAGAN'S AWARDS & HONORS IN 2022

• Ilagan finishes his junior season as the most decorated player in Rainbow Warrior tennis history. 

• Became just the second Rainbow Warrior (Andreas Weber, 2007) to compete in the NCAA Men's Singles Championship, earning the Big West's automatic bid as the highest ranked player in conference

• Ilagan was voted Big West Player of the Year, becoming only the second UH player to earn the BWC honor (Jonathan Brooklyn, 2014) and the third Rainbow Warrior overall to be named a conference Player of the Year (Dennis Lajola, WAC, 2011).

• Earned All-Big West first team honors in both singles and doubles with partner Karl Collins. It is the third time he has been tabbed an all-BWC first teamer in singles and it is his second time earning first team honors in doubles

• Voted Big West Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks (March 23 and March 16) to raise his career total of conference weekly honors to six.

• Was named the 2021-22 Bonham Award male winner (UH's highest athletic award)

• Only the third Rainbow Warrior to be selected to the CoSIDA All-Academic District 8 first team which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom..

CLASS OF 2022

After a momentous win in which the 75th-ranked 'Bows upset #53 UC Santa Barbara, 4-3, the Rainbow Warriors celebrated their Senior Day, honoring fifth-year senior Blaz Seric and graduating players Andre Ilagan and Simao Telo Alves.
