Post Game Quotes
Hawai‘i vs. Fresno State (Nov. 14, 2015)
Hawai‘i Interim Head Coach Chris Naeole
On too many penalties...
You can’t have that many penalties and turnover the ball that much and expect to be successful in this game. Some of the calls were tough but I’m not going to sit here and question the refs.
On making Paul Harris and the run game a focus...
We definitely did want to run the ball. We would get into trouble though with the turnovers and penalties to allow them to get up on us. We just had too many penalties to stay in this game
On switching quarterbacks at halftime...
We needed a spark to get the ball going. I thought Ikaika (Woolsey) missed some reads early and I listened to my offensive coordinator (Don Bailey) and made the change. We didn’t have anything to lose and if I didn’t feel Max (Wittek) was going to work out I’d switch back.
On putting the wind back in the players’ sails...
Pride – that’s what it comes down to. Either you have it or you don’t. A lot are guys are dinged up and our cupboards are empty but guys just have to suck it up the last two games. We have two teams coming in who aren’t going to feel sorry for us.
Paul Harris (RB) and Julian Gener (LB)
On rushing for 100 yards for the fourth time this season...
Paul Harris: I just give it all to my lineman for giving their all. Without them I wouldn’t be able to do this. A pat on the back to them. I’m not a selfish guy though and I just want to win.
On penalties affecting team...
Julian Gener: It really takes the win out of your sails. We were in some pretty decent situations (defensively) and we could have had stops but didn’t get off the field. You still have to stay aggressive though because if you let it up it’s one bad assignment, one missed tackle and it’s to the house.
On finishing the season strong...
Julian Gener: I’m a senior and for a lot of the seniors it’s just two more games in their careers. You just have to keep working, stay with your assignments and have fun. I need to help the returnees grow and the young guys need to gain experience. I’m trying to stay loose and keep at it and give them some knowledge.
