Post-Game Quotes vs. San Diego State (10/10/15)
Post-Game Quotes – Hawai‘i vs San Diego State (Oct. 10, 2015)
UH Head Coach Norm Chow
On what went wrong...
If I knew the answer to that then I wouldn’t be sitting here. We fought hard but it’s just the little mistakes we can’t make. We can’t have that lack of discipline especially against top teams like we’ve played in the past few weeks.
On SDSU’s running attack...
I wish I knew why we couldn’t stop their run. We knew they were going to run and did that on the first two possessions. We even knew their first play of the game. We fell behind even though we knew what they were going to do.
LB Julian Gener
On what went wrong..
I love our guys and I love the effort we give, but we just have to play smarter. I couldn’t really tell you what went wrong but we just have to take one game at a time, one down at a time, and just take care of business. Once we start to do that every down of every series we’ll be where we want to be.
On his career high 19 tackles..
I was just laying it out there. I had been going to the doctors and trainers for the last 6 weeks so it was good to be out there. Hats off to the D-line because they helped me make a majority of those tackles.
RB Melvin Davis
On the offense...
We just weren’t clicking tonight and I couldn’t tell you why, just not playing 11-man ball. At this point it starts tomorrow and we get back to watching film. It felt good to get another touchdown but honestly I could have done more.
SDSU Head Coach Rocky Long
Long on the 28-14 win...
We made just enough plays to win the game. His (Hawaii Coach Norm Chow) guys played hard, physical, just like we thought they would. We thought our team played hard and physical too. I thought it was a great football game. We just ended up on the winning side.
On going up 14-0 in the first quarter...
I thought that got us off on the right foot, obviously. That was the difference in the game because the rest of the game was even. There were some momentum shifts.
On UH making adjustments...
Hawaii did a really nice job. Early in the game, they were a little slow reacting to what we were doing. That’s because you go against scout teams all week and it’s not the same speed as the game. Once they got used to the speed of the power plays and the counter plays I thought they played really well on defense.
On the SDSU defense...
I thought early in the game we were able to get some pressure on them. They did a great job of adjusting on offense because they started blocking us a little bit different and we didn’t have as much success with blitzes, which made us go to more of a four-man rush and play more zone coverage.
