Oregon State 33, Hawaii 14
September 7, 2013
Reser Stadium
Corvallis, Ore.

Norm Chow, Head Coach

On what happened in the third quarter after Hawai‘i battled back to tie it at halftime…
“I wish I could tell you. Oregon State came out and made some nice adjustments and we did not take advantage of opportunities we had on offense in the third quarter. It just kind of steamrolled from there. That is a very good football team. When it was 14-14, we felt we had a shot. But we didn’t get the ball much because the way they pounded it at us. It just got away from us.”

On the play of Hawai‘i quarterback Taylor Graham…
“It was disappointing and he knows that. I thought he missed a couple of opportunities that we had. They kept throwing the ball to that wide receiver and that’s something we practice all the time. I thought Sean (Mannion) obviously did a terrific job and Brandin Cooks, No. 7, is a terrific player, as the rest of them are.”

On what hurt his team the most…
“Drops hurt us. We can’t keep making these kinds of mistakes. We can’t keep losing because of mistakes. It was 14-14 at half and last week we played a good first half. The game doesn’t last a half, it lasts four quarters and you have to stay with it.”

On the number of injuries in the game…
“I talked to Mike (Riley) after the game and he said they were beat up as well. It was hot. We were cramping. We were playing a lot of different folks. That’s just the game. This is a tough game. It was humid. Mike asked if we have anybody left and I said ‘well’ and he said they don’t have anybody left either. So it was a tough, hard-fought ball game.”

Steven Lakalaka, Running Back
On the play of the offensive line during the first few drives…
“The offensive line did a good job of getting me looks and from there it was just time to execute.  I just have to give credit to the o-line.”

On his improvement from the USC game…
“After the USC game I watched a lot of film on myself and focused more on my blocking, because that’s what a lot of teams focus on against us.”

On the running back competition…
“When Joey was out, I feel that I stepped up, but I still feel like I made a bunch of rookie mistakes. After tonight, I’m going to go in and watch film and be better next week.”

Julian Gener, Linebacker
On the interception-touchdown in the second quarter…
“We were in man-to-man and we knew he just throws it if he has pressure in his face, so I just capitalized and jumped in front of the fullback. I kind of bobbled it, but picked it up and ran it in.”

On Sean Mannion’s performance…
“He played a pretty good game. He puts the ball in a good place where the receivers can make a play on the ball. He’s able to throw a lot of check-downs which opens it up for them offensively to get the ball deeper in the run game.”

On team’s mentality going into next game…
“We’ve got a lot of banged up guys, so thank God we have a bye week. We’ve got to just regroup, watch the film, get the mental mistakes together, and just let this game pass.”
