Head Coach Heather Tarr
I think it was a very typical game of what we are going to see in a regional like ours with good pitching. And the biggest thing that I’m proud of today is our team didn’t panic and they didn’t get tight. We kept finding a way to get on base whether it was a walk or a hit. Unfortunately we kept getting stuck at second and couldn’t get a run in, but we found a way. Kylee (Lahners) had a clutch hit to get Jerrin (Fa’asua), the pinch runner, in. And then of course Kaitlin Inglesby pitched a gem. It was an awesome game by her. And we played good defense.

On Hawai’i’s pitching
She’s (Kaia Parnaby) a great pitcher and a lot better since we faced her. It’s not often you’re able to get a lot of base runners on against good pitching. So we were trying to execute the situation and get runners in scoring position. We found a way to do it there with Kimberlee (Souza) and Kylee and Jennie McNeill, we got Kylee in and that only happened because we had a runner on.

On Jennie McNeill having two hits
Freshmen are weird. They give you headaches all season and think they know everything at first and they’re good, then they get humbled and you have to build them back up. It’s usually around postseason time when they start figuring it out and Jennie is starting to figure it out.

On everyone playing
I think it speaks to the depth of our team. It goes back to adding one more runner on our team with Mercedes Wetmore. It allows us to use our faster runners earlier in the game. If Marki (Creger-Zier) had scored that run it would have been very different. I think Marki was the only one we could have pressured the dish with one out there. There’s a lot of depth on the team and I trust them. They study, they watch film, and they’re in the game so we are going to use it when we need them.

On sending in Marki in the fourth inning
I thought that before the pitch I knew she was playing deep. And I didn’t think Shawna (Wright) hit it all that hard. And I thought Marki got a decent jump. She thought she was with me pretty good. And (we) got to pressure the dish with one out.

On Kaitlin pitching today
I think this is more of what she sees herself being like. Hopefully in her mind when she dreams about herself pitching she sees that that’s her game. She had a lot of composure, she stayed within herself, nothing rattled her, and she had great pitches in great spots and found a way to stay tough.

Kaitlin Inglesby
What was working well today?
Just putting good pitches in good spots. Glass (Lance Glasoe) called a great game. I had a lot of trust in him and Shawna (Wright). The pitches were in good spots.

On her nine strikeouts
I think just keeping them off balance. Never getting in a pattern. I just kept doing what I do.

On her mentality pitching a 0-0 game
Just trying not to do too much. I do what I do and let my defense make good plays behind me.

On her curveballs
I wouldn’t say one pitch was particularly dominant. I was just moving good pitches and putting them in good spots. That was why I was successful. What Glass was telling me I was able to put consistently.

When did you learn those off-speed pitches?
I would say I learned it here. Just working with Coach Glass to get that pitch has been a process. I think I’m throwing it better than ever.

Where does this game rank as far as your satisfaction?
I wasn’t trying to do too much. They are a great team and I was just trying to put the ball in good spots.

On team confidence with two wins
Well, a win is a win. We’re not going to enjoy this one too much because we still have tomorrow. Every team in this region is good. So we have to come back and play even better tomorrow. We will celebrate for a few minutes, but as soon and we get on the bus it’s a new day.

Kylee Lahners
On a 1-2 count, what was going through your mind?
I knew I had to keep competing and trying for the team. I put the ball on the right part of the bat and things worked out. It was something on the outside corner. I kept telling myself to stay tough and put the ball in play.

On struggling to get runs and the pressure
I just stayed calm and trust in the hard work we have put in.  I just kept fighting and fouling off the close ones.

On team mood
I think the team right now is finding a way to stick in there. These close wins are bringing us closer and closer as a team and is making us stronger.

On Kaitlin pitching
I thought she did an outstanding job. As a defender it’s always important for the pitcher to keep the defense involved in the game and she kept attacking the hitters and her stuff was good today. It was awesome.
