On getting the win…
I don’t think this tells us anything different than the last, what have we won the last six out of seven every one of them have been out a battle … we have great character and we try really hard and we play really hard…. After an 0-3 start these kids have made themselves bowl eligible and that says a lot about their character.”
Did you harp on the fact Hawaii was a team playing hard?
“We talked about it, but I’m not sure they understood how good Iosefa was. You can say there is a 6 ft 250 pound running back over there that is going to run over you if you don’t wrap up but you don’t realize that in practice….”
On the turnovers
“They kept us off balance and they kept the ball away from us by doing that. They caused a bunch of turnovers, I thought there was times when we would jump up and maybe get a head but they caused big time turnovers to keep us out the endzone.”
On Overtime…
“I thought we were going to score but I also thought they were going to score. I know this is going to sound funny but I thought the biggest play of the game was on first down when they gave the ball to Joey and we stopped him for a no gain… I thought stopping him and making it second and long gave us the advantage. “
On UH’s comeback effort…
“Well I knew that was going to happen, because they got their runningback back and he is a load. He weighs 250 pounds and we had a hard time tackling him. We would hit him at the line of scrimmage he would keep running and he would get 6-7 yards, he ran against Navy 35 times for almost 200 yard.”
