Post Game Quotes
Hawai‘i vs. South Alabama
Dec. 1, 2012
Aloha Stadium
UH Head Coach Norm Chow
Opening Comments…
Our (special) teams did well. We missed some scoring opportunities. We need touchdowns instead of field goals. The effort was there and it was nice to see the seniors go out this way.
On first season as head coach…
It’s not about me. I enjoy these seniors. They did a great job. They bought in to what we were trying to do. Whatever they want to do with me is fine. It’s all about them (players).
On speaking to Governor Neil Abercrombie after the game…
He wants to help improve the situation.
On preparation for next year…
We have a tremendous amount of work to do; recruiting, getting stronger and making sure we finish strong in the classroom. There are a lot of things we have to do and there are a lot of things we have to fix.
USA Head Coach Joey Jones
Opening Comments…
They came out and made a good drive … we threw an interception … then it’s 16-0 at halftime. We didn’t do very much offensively during the second quarter and they made some big plays. Our defense played better in the second half, but they just controlled the game. I don’t know how many dropped passes we had, but it was probably eight or ten in key situations. We throw a couple bombs for 40 yards and then we have holding calls, twice. For where we are with our program, we can’t make mistakes like that and beat a team like Hawaii. That’s the bottom line.
On what his team got out of trip to Hawaii…
First of all, we’ve been in almost every game (we’ve played). They fought to the end. Do we have to get better? Certainly. I think we are close. We certainly aren’t there yet, but what I think they’ve learned is that we are close. Next year will be the first time we’ll have a big senior class. So I think that will help in the standpoint of numbers. We just have to recruit more guys and get more depth.
