Post-Game Notes
Hawai‘i vs. UNLV
Nov. 24, 2012
Aloha Stadium

UH picked up its first-ever Mountain West victory.

The Warriors completed their inaugural season in the Mountain West with a 1-7 mark. With the win UH avoided a winless season in conference, something that has not occurred since 1998 (0-8 in the WAC).

UH snapped an eight-game losing streak, its second longest in school history. The Warriors had also lost their last 10 conference games dating back to last season, which was also the second longest streak in school history.

UH snapped a three-game home losing streak and improved to 2-3 at home this season.

The game was dubbed “Military Night” and the Warriors donned special red, white, and blue uniforms and helmets by Under Armour. The uniforms will be auctioned off following the game and proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

Hawai‘i leads the overall series with UNLV 14-8, including a 9-2 advantage in Honolulu.

UH’s 31 first-half points were its most all season.

The last time UH scored in all three phases of the game was last year at Louisiana Tech (Oct. 11, 2011).

John Hardy-Tuliau scored his first career touchdown on 38-yard interception return in the second quarter. It was UH’s second defensive touchdown this year and first interception return for a touchdown since Richard Torres’ 49-yard return at Louisiana Tech on Oct. 11, 2011. Hardy-Tuliau also had a fourth-quarter interception.

Scott Harding scored his first career touchdown on a punt return with a 69-yard return in the fourth quarter. It was UH’s first punt return for a touchdown since Michael Washington’s 80-yard return vs. Northern Colorado in the 2007 season opener.

Junior quarterback Sean Schroeder returned to the starting lineup and finished 13-of-24 for 201 yards and one touchdown in less than three quarters of work.

Sophomore running back Joey Iosefa scored his first touchdown of the year with a 25-yard run on UH’s opening drive. Iosefa added his second touchdown of the night on a 7-yard pass from Schroeder in the second quarter.

Senior running back Sterling Jackson scored his first touchdown of the season on a 1-yard plunge in the second quarter.

UH scored on its opening drive for the second straight game. The Warriors did not score on an opening drive in the first nine games of the season.

Senior punter Alex Dunnachie booted a career long 73-yard punt in the second quarter. Dunnachie’s previous long was 69 yards at Air Force last week.

Junior cornerback Mike Edwards picked off his pass of the season and second of his career with a third-quarter interception of Nick Sherry.
