Boise State Post Game Quotes

Post-Game Quotes
Hawai‘i vs. Boise State
Nov. 10, 2012
Aloha Stadium

UH Head Coach Norm Chow

On backup QB Jeremy Higgins performance…
You always have to keep in mind that the second guy (Higgins) is playing against the second unit (defense).

On difficulty running the ball…
You can’t become one dimensional. When you fall behind you have to become one dimensional.

On impact of RB Will Gregory’s early dismissal…
He’s a very valuable part of our team. That was uncalled for. That was stupid and it will be dealt with very severely.

On team playing hard for entire 60 minutes…
That’s what we have to do and we’ll keep doing that no matter what our record is. My guys know that. They’re a very close team and they work very hard. I was very optimistic. We had a nice week in practice.

On preparing for a short week…
We’ll get together Monday morning and give the kids a chance to catch their breath. The schedule makes it tough … We’re gonna play them (Air Force). We’re gonna play them hard and show up with committed guys.

BSU Head Coach Chris Petersen

On early offensive success…
I think we responded well. I’m proud of these guys. I’ve been proud of them since Tuesday. They worked hard. We had a really physical practice Tuesday. Sometimes its hard to go that hard in practice this late in the season.

On overcoming last week’s loss…
The kids always respond faster than the coaches. They usually shake that stuff off pretty quickly. I think the coaches did a good job framing where we are in our season and what it really means. We just gotta go forward, there is still lots of football to play. We can’t worry about anything behind us.

On efficient passing game…
Joe’s (Southwick) ball, it’s been a long time coming, but I think he was turning it over nicely. When you can do that you can almost see it leave his hand and know the receiver will have a chance to make a play.

On WR Aaron Burks stellar performance…
He’s showing flashes. Joe gave him a chance to make plays and he did. The credit goes to him.

On his defensive lines gritty effort…
Those are four pretty athletics guys and they’re hard to block especially if you single them up. They did a good job. I think when you play as good of pass defense as we’ve played it’s gotta be a combination (linemen and coverage). The QB can’t hold it long and our defensive line really doesn’t let them. And we’ve got some pretty good corners and guys in the secondary. The secondary, in general, has done a great job all year long.

On allowing a kickoff return for a TD in consecutive games…
We’ve got a lot of work to do on kickoff returns. It’s really surprising because we’ve been so good then all of a sudden one happens and we’ve lost the mojo. So we will be back to the drawing board. You’ve got to credit Hawaii; he’s a good returner and we knew it. So we had to do some different things … very frustrating in that area.

On special teams…
I think in general we were okay. Anytime you score on special teams that’s a dagger in you’re heart. Our PAT’s were all clean … we did some good things.

On what he can take away from this game…
I think what we can take is it’s all about us. Are we gonna prepare? Are we gonna practice? Are we gonna continue to improve? I think the guys have done a nice job.

On sense of relief coming off a tough loss…
It’s always back to business but I’ll also tell you it’s always a sense of relief in my world. Anytime I walk off the field and we win, I’m relieved.
