Opening remarks:
Well, another obviously disappointing performance. The slow start we had, we tried to change things up a little bit. We took the ball when we won the toss. We took a shorter warm up trying to come up with reasons why we come out so slow to start the ball game. Give credit to them, it was evidently obviously too big a hole to climb out of. But our kids fought, but we really need to fight smarter.
What he means by fighting smarter:
We need to tackle better. We need to cut off the inside zone game. We need to catch more balls. We need to quit throwing the balls to the other guys. Run better routes. Pass protect better…But we don’t lay blame on anybody, just responding to your question. That’s what we need to do—we need to get technically better.
On getting off to a slow start:
We don’t worry about that. I know we will come back fighting. But sometimes it’s a tough hole to get out of. You know we get down and have a chance to score another touchdown and we get a fourth-and-one and can’t make a play. There’s really nothing else to say.

General thoughts:
You know it's kind of like we started the last couple of weeks. The offense was able to take the ball down the field, then on the kickoff we were able to force the fumble. We're the kind of team that has to be even or ahead in the game with our style of offense. I’ve been over here enough times to know this would drain us but I also knew we’d fight to the very end and that's what happened. For us to come over here and get a win with the injuries we had during the game, we'll take it.
On the ebb and flow of the game:
I felt pretty good starting out but I knew Hawai'i would fight to the very end. We really had control of the game in the second half but the return by (Mike) Edwards really hurt us. We had debated whether to kick to him because he is one heck of a kick returner. But all in all, it was a good win.
