Post-Game Quotes
Hawai`i vs. Fresno State
November 19, 2011
Hawai‘i coach Greg McMackin
On playing Shane Austin and David Graves at quarterback:
“David Graves came in and did a real good job. We knew we had to score points because they have a great offense. They had 17 points and we put David in and he put us ahead. I thought he did some really nice things. He’s going to be our guy from here on out.”
On becoming bowl-eligible:
“We know where we are now. We need to win our next two ballgames.”
On Fresno State’s offense:
“Their offense is outstanding. Carr is outstanding. Their receivers are outstanding. They’ve scored against everybody.”
On Hawai‘i coming out strong in the second half:
“We just talked about the bowl and how we scored those seven points (at the end of the half). They competed the whole time. “
Fresno State coach Pat Hill
On pulling out a close game:
“Except for a couple games this season, every game has been like this. We just couldn’t make the plays at the end to win them. This has been one of those years where our youth has sometimes committed problems for us at the end. It’s hard to win over here.”
“It’s great just to see them happy. We haven’t had many bad seasons. It’s been a tough season won-loss-wise. It was important for us to get a win.”
On Fresno State’s defense:
“Most of the night we shut them down pretty good.”
On stopping Hawai‘i on its final drive:
“We had to make a stand. That’s what we needed to do to win a game.”
On going with up to seven offensive linemen:
“They played cover-2 the whole night. They played the same type of defense like Louisiana Tech and forced us into a run game. We felt we’d be better off with tackles and tight ends, and tight ends and tight ends against their defensive tackles.”
On Fresno State running back Robbie Rouse:
“He’s a great player and I think he’ll become the all-time leading rusher at the school. I just know he ran really hard tonight, played hard.”
On Fresno State’s strong start:
“We got off to a great start. We had some really good things in the passing game early and then they went straight cover-2 and forced us into a run game.”
On long touchdown pass from Carr to Harper in fourth quarter:
“We had a couple of big plays against the coverages they were playing. You have to have great protection, you have to hit them on the right play-action type downs. We felt pretty good about a couple of our down-the-field throws.”
