2019-20 (Junior):

  • All-Big West honorable mention for the second time.
  • Led the Big West in assists for the second straight year (5.4 apg).
  • Enjoyed three straight games with double-digit assists.
  • During one four-game stretch recorded 42 assists to just seven turnovers.
  • Tied his career high with 12 assists in win over UC Santa Barbara.
  • Posted two double-doubles: 12 points and 12 assists vs. UCSB and 19 points and a career-high 11 rebounds at Cal Poly 
  • Had two 20-point games both in wins, notching 20 points vs. Cal State Fullerton and a career-best 25 points versus San Francisco.

  • Led the team and the Big West Conference in assists per game (5.4).
  • Set a new single-season record for most assists by a UH sophomore (168).

  • Also scored in double-digits in 12 games.
  • Ranked second in the conference in assist-turnover ratio (2.4) and second on the team minutes per game (29.5).
  • During one six-game stretch spanning nearly 180 minutes, committed just five turnovers, while dishing out 36 assists.
  • Produced second career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 12 assists in a win over UC Davis.
  • The 12 assists were the most by a UH sophomore.
  • Tied a career-high with 17 points and added eight assists to secure a victory against Cal Poly.

Prep: A 2016 graduate of Long Beach Poly High School in California …a three-time all-league selection...the combo guard was named all-Moore League first team his junior and senior seasons and honorable mention as a sophomore…helped team to a league championship each of his three seasons…averaged 9.8 ppg as a senior despite playing through a major portion of his season with a leg injury…for his efforts, earned Long Beach Gazette’s Iron Man of the Year and the team’s Most Inspirational awards…helped team to the 2016 CIF Southern State Regional championship…in his junior year, put his versatility on display averaging 8.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.4 steals per game…selected to the Long Beach Press-Telegram Dream Team that season…helped his team to a CIF Southern Section title as a sophomore…team’s Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore and junior…also showcased his skills for Earl Watson Elite, one of the top AAU programs in the nation…played AAU ball alongside fellow Rainbow Warrior freshman Leland Green…an AP Scholar. 

Personal: Born in Long Beach, Calif…nickname is “Buggs”....majoring in communications…has two younger sisters and one younger brother...father Andrew Buggs played football at Iowa State, lining up at defensive back...parents are Andrew Buggs and the late Mary Buggs of Long Beach, Calif.
