Biography

2004-05: NCAA qualifier...received the team's Outstanding Performance Award...swam leadoff legs on the winning 400 Medley and 800 Free relays at the NIC Championship...won the 100 Back (48.38), finished second in the 200 Back (1:46.64), and placed third in the 50 Free (20.44) at the NIC...set the school record in the 200 Back (1:45.17) at the Big West Shootout (Nov. 6)...ranked second in the 100 Back (48.12), fifth in both the 50 Free (20.31) and 200 Free (1:37.89), while seventh in the 100 Free (44.70) on the UH all-time lists...earned first letter.

Prep: A 2000 graduate of Robert-Gerwig-Schule High School in Singen, Germany...was on the German Junior National team...was a finalist in the German Nationals and Olympic Trials...was 1999 European Junior Champion on the 4x100 Free Relay team...won gold at the 2000 European Short Course Championships in Spain as part of the 4x50-meter relay team...placed fifth in the 100m Free at the 2000-01 FINA Swimming World Cup in Brazil.

Personal:  Born Feb. 13, 1981, in Dresden, Germany...proudest moment was when he graduated from high school...favorites include The Simpsons, Guns N' Roses and swimmer John Weissmuller...parents are Monika and Andreas Winkler of Gottmadingen, Germany.
