HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team hosts its second early-season tournament in as many weeks in the OUTRIGGER Invitational set for Sept. 3-6 at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.  
 
Coming off a 1-2 showing in the season-opening Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic, the Rainbow Wahine open Week 2 against Utah Tech on Thursday, Sept. 3. They'll face Loyola Marymount on Friday, Sept. 4, and after a break on Sept., 5, conclude the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 6 against former Big West rival UC San Diego.

This is the second installment of the Da Kine Series, where we proudly celebrate the unique melting pot of cultures that makes Hawaiʻi truly special. September is Hawaiian History Month, and we're honoring Hawai'i's rich cultural heritage. Portions of the match will be announced in 'Ōlelo Hawai'i in recognition of this special month. 'BOWS NOTES

• The Rainbow Wahine opened Joshua Walker's tenure as the fourth head coach in the program's 53-year history with a win over Georgia Southern on the opening night of the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic. They pushed No. 21 Baylor to a fifth set before falling short then closed the opening weekend with a loss to San Diego.
• Middle blocker Miliana Sylvester earned a place on the All-Tournament team with 25 kills and a team-high 12 blocks.
• Sophomore Cha'lei Reid put away 21 kills in the duel with Baylor and leads UH with 36 total kills (3.00 per set).
• In her return from an injury-shortened 2025 season, outside hitter Tali Hakas led UH with 15 kills in the season opener against Georgia Southern and averages 2.17 kills per set.
• Libero Victoria Leyva continues to anchor UH's floor defense with 38 total digs, 19 coming in the opener against Georgia Southern.
• Setter Adrianna Arquette averaged 8.83 assists per set last weekend and surpassed 1,000 career assists. She opened her junior year by tying her career high with 17 digs in her 11^th career double-double.
• Arquette and outside hitter Panna Ratkai lead UH with four aces each through three matches. UH served up a total of 13 aces over its first three matches.
• Middle blocker Rachel Purser started the first three matches of her college career and posted 13 kills and nine blocks. Purser was among six 'Bows who made their UH debut last weekend.

THE MATCHUPS
Utah Tech Trailblazers
Series Record: First meeting

• The Rainbow Wahine and Trailblazers meet for the first time in Thursday's matchup.
• Utah Tech went 2-1 in the Utah Valley Invitational, with wins over Utah Valley and Oregon State before falling to Utah.
• The Trailblazers went 21-6 last season and 10-2 in the Western Athletic Conference.
• Utah Tech has two graduates of Kamehameha Schools on the roster, libero/defensive specialist Kaleinani Watson and setter Marley Roe.
• Head coach Camilla Hafoka is in her sixth season and has a career record of 65-63.
• Hafoka is a graduate of Kahuku High School and was the 2025 WAC Coach of the Year. She previously coached at BYU-Hawai'i and led the Seasiders to the 2012 NCAA Division II final.
• Associate Head Coach Shairone Thompson is also a Kahuku alum and coached at BYUH.

Loyola Marymount Lions

Streak: UH won 3
Last Meeting: UH 3-0, Nov. 21, 2007

• UH and LMU meet for the 12^th time and the first time since the 'Bows swept a two-match series in November 2007.
• UH has won the last three meetings in the series and leads 8-2 in Honolulu.
• LMU opened the season by going 3-0 in the Ole Miss Invitational in Oxford, Miss., with wins over Northern Arizona, Southeastern Louisiana and host Ole Miss.
• LMU is 3-0 for the first time since 2018.
• Maria Tabacuks averaged 5.20 kills per set on .352 hitting and was named the Ole Miss Invitational MVP and WCC Offensive Player of the Week.
• Head coach Kolby O'Donnell is in his second season and has a record of 10-20.

UC San Diego Tritons
Series Record: UH 11-0
Streak: UH won 11
Last Meeting: UH 3-1 Nov. 21, 2025

• UH and UCSD meet for the 12^th time and continue their series after competing in the Big West for the last five seasons.
• UH has won all 11 meetings, six coming in Honolulu. Last season, UH swept the Tritons in La Jolla and won the rematch in Mānoa in four sets.
• UCSD went 2-1 in the Gael Bear Classic in Berkeley, Calif., defeating Saint Mary's and Gonzaga and falling to Cal, all in four sets.
• A familiar name in Hawai'i volleyball, Spencer McLachlin was hired as head coach in December 2025.
• A graduate of Punahou School, McLachlin is the son of UH Sports Circle of Honor inductees Chris and Beth McLachlin.
• McLachlin began his coaching career as an assistant coach with the UH men's volleyball team in 2015, when current Rainbow Wahine assistant coach Kolby Kanetake was a libero for the Warriors.
