NEW HAVEN, Conn. — University of Hawai'i quarterback
Micah Alejado has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2026 Walter Camp Player of the Year award, announced by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
The sophomore signal-caller is one of 50 players to watch nationwide for the prestigious honor, which stands as the nation's fourth-oldest individual college football accolade. The 50-player list is comprised of 41 offensive standouts—including 22 quarterbacks—and nine defensive players, representing 38 schools and 11 conferences.
This nomination adds to a decorated summer of preseason accolades for Alejado. In July, he was selected as the Preseason Mountain West Player of the Year. Earlier this month he was also named to the preseason watch list for the 90th Maxwell Award.
Alejado earned these national spotlights following a standout 2025 redshirt freshman campaign. In his first full season guiding the Rainbow Warriors, Alejado threw for 3,106 yards and 24 touchdowns over 11 games, establishing new single-season freshman records for both UH and the Mountain West Conference.
The Walter Camp Player of the Year watch list will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists in early November, with three finalists announced in early December. The 2026 recipient, voted on by the 138 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced live during the second week of December.
