Softball Walks It Off Against Cal Poly On Senior Day

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i softball team (26-18, 18-6 Big West) rallied to defeat Cal Poly, 3-2 on Senior Day at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Jamie McGaughey delivered clutch hits and Milan Ah Yat drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh to lift Hawai'i to a 3-2 victory over the Mustangs on Saturday.

With the win, the Rainbow Wahine sealed their series sweep over Cal Poly. UH has now swept their last three conference series over Cal State Bakersfield, UC San Diego and Cal Poly. Hawai'i outscored Cal Poly this week, 21-2 over three gams.

With UH's three wins over Cal Poly, the 'Bows improved to 18-6 in conference play to leap-frog over UC Santa Barbara after the Gauchos fell twice to UC Davis on Saturday. Cal State Fullerton remains firmly in first place with a 21-2 record. Long Beach State is in fourth at 15-8.

Cal Poly (10-33, 4-20 BW) struck first in the second inning when Myleigh Cooper launched a solo home run to leftfield. The Mustangs extended their lead to 2-0 in the fifth as Maddy Bermudez tripled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Kiara Blanchard.

The Mustangs held UH off until the fifth inning, when Hawai'i's offense finally ignited. After Larissa Goshi walked and Carys Murakami singled, McGaughey ripped a two-run single to centerfield, to knot the score at 2-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, Hawai'i capitalized on defensive miscues by Cal Poly to put two runners on board. The Mustangs then intentionally walked McGauhey to load the bases. With two outs, Ah Yat showed patience at the plate, drawing a four-pitch walk that forced home Goshi for the unearned walk-off, winning run.

UH starter Hannah Pitts (11-4) earned the complete-game victory, allowing just four hits and two runs while striking out two.

Kaylee Davis (3-15) took the loss for Cal Poly in relief.

After the game, Hawai'i celebrated Senior Day and honored its seven seniors--Ellyanna Cinzri, Millie Fidge, Maycen Gibbs, Larissa Goshi, Carys Murakami, Hannah Pitts, and Cierra Yamamoto.

Hawai'i will conclude their regular season on the road with a three-game series at UC Riverside. The teams will open with a doubleheader on Friday May 1, 2026 at 9:00 a.m.HT and 11:00 a.m. HT.
