SAN PEDRO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team made the trip to Southern California this weekend, taking fourth place at the Port of LA Harbor Cup held in San Pedro, Calif.
This three-day regatta endured a delayed start on day two due to strong winds, but thankfully all 10 teams were able to finish 10 races throughout the weekend. The Rainbow Sailors put together a strong performance over the first two days of competition, winning the fourth race and moving from just one point out of second to third. However, ninth-place finishes in the eighth and 10th races left them tied for fourth to conclude the competition.
The 'Bows' 46 total points put them even with the Navy Midshipmen as UH won the tie breaker, and the College of Charleston's fantastic start propelled them towards the Harbor Cup title.
Led by All-Conference skipper Erik Anderson, UH's Catalina 37 fleet featured Stella Taherian, Grady Van Ness, Arden Rathkopf, Martha Schuessler, Amanda Turner, Peyton Lieser, Everett McAvoy, and Zach Brennan.
The Rainbow Sailors will take a few weeks off before returning to competition on Mar. 21-22, moving up a level in the Golden State for the PCCSC South Series in San Francisco.
