Women's Basketball Preps for Big West Championship Quarterfinals

HENDERSON, Nev. — Riding the conference's longest active winning streak, the University of Hawai'i women's basketball team heads to Henderson, Nev., looking to carry its momentum into the Credit Union 1 Big West Women's Basketball Championship.
 
The Rainbow Wahine (20-10, 14-6 Big West) enter the conference tournament with eight consecutive wins and 14 victories in their last 15 games to earn the No. 4 seed in the eight-team bracket. The 'Bows will have a bye into Thursday's quarterfinal round  with tipoff is set for noon Pacific Time (9 a.m. Hawai'i Time) at Lee's Family Forum in Henderson. UH will face the winner of Wednesday's first-round matchup between No. 5 seed Cal State Fullerton and No. 8 seed CSUN.
 
The 'Bows closed the regular season with two dominant victories at UC Riverside and Long Beach State before continuing on to Las Vegas in advance of their final run in the Big West Championship.

'BOWS NOTES
  • UH's enters the Big West Championship riding its longest winning streak of the season. The 'Bows are in the midst of a remarkable turnaround in going 14-1 following a 6-9 start to the season overall and 0-5 in Big West play.
  • The Rainbow Wahine reached 20 wins for the 19th time in program history, the sixth time under head coach Laura Beeman and the fourth time in the last five years.
  • UH averaged 81.5 points per game while allowing 47.5 in last week's wins at UC Riverside and Long Beach State. The 'Bows have an average scoring margin of 18.3 points during their eight-game winning streak. 
  • The Rainbow Wahine closed the regular season with a program single-season record 184 blocked shots. UH leads the Big West and rose to fifth in the nation with 6.1 blocks per game. UH's rate of blocked shots remains ahead of the program record of 5.6 set in the 2004-05 season.
  • UH leads the Big West and moved up to fifth nationally in field-goal percentage defense in holding opponents to 34.9% shooting.
  • UH also tops the conference and ranks 19th in the nation in scoring defense in holding opponents to 56.7 points per game.
  • UH has held its last 16 opponents under 60 points and allowed fewer than 50 in three of the last four games. During their eight-game winning streak, the 'Bows are limiting opponents to 50.5 points per game on 31% shooting.
  • Freshman guard Bailey Flavell continues to lead UH with 12.5 points per game and is on track to become the first freshman to lead the team in scoring since the 2010-11 season.
  • Saniyah Neverson has surged late in her senior season, averaging a team-best 14.8 points and 6.6 rebounds while shooting 62.5% from the field over the last eight games. She is shooting 57.7% from the field in Big West games to lead the conference.
  • Senior forward Imani Perez continues to anchor the UH defense and ranks first in the Big West and 39th nationally with 1.66 blocked shots per game. On the offensive end, Perez is shooting 50.3% from the field overall, 46.7% from 3-point range, and 83.7% at the free-throw line.
  • Ritorya Tamilo has 40 blocked shots in her sophomore season, one shy of her total last season when she set the UH freshman record, and is shooting 50.4% from the field.
  • This season marks UH's farewell campaign in the Big West before joining the Mountain West starting with the 2026-27 season.

ROAD TO HENDERSON

  • The Rainbow Wahine will make their final appearance in the Big West Championship as the No. 4 seed in the eight-team bracket. UH placed in the top four in the conference's regular-season standings for the eighth straight year.
  • UH has won four Big West Championship titles, three under head coach Laura Beeman (2016, 2022, 2023) and one under Vince Goo (1996).
  • UH is 22-19 in the Big West Championship overall and 9-7 in the quarterfinal round.
  • UH advanced in its last four quarterfinal appearances, the last coming in 2023 with an 82-75 win over Cal State Fullerton in double-overtime. The 'Bows earned double-byes into the semifinals each of the last two years as the Big West regular-season champion.
  • The Rainbow Wahine qualified for the semifinals in each of the last seven Big West Championships. (The 2020 tournament was canceled the day after UH won its quarterfinal game).
  • UH split the regular-season series with Cal State Fullerton with a road loss (82-80) on Dec. 6 and a home win (67-49) on Feb. 28.
  • The 'Bows swept the series with CSUN, winning on the road (64-55) on Jan. 24 and at home (63-54) on Feb. 14.
  • The winner of Thursday's quarterfinal game will face No. 1 seed and regular-season co-champion UC Irvine in the semifinals on Friday at noon PT (9 a.m. HT).
