The University of Hawai'i men's golf team will make their second appearance at the Wyoming Desert Intercollege at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. The tournament runs Monday, Feb. 23 through Wednesday, Feb. 25.
UH competed and placed fifth in the 2023 event, 15 strokes behind champion and host Wyoming. The Rainbow Warriors shot 8-over 872 and was led by
Josh Hayashida, who tied for 10
th place at 1-under 215.
This year's tournament features a 23-team field, headlined by 46
th-ranked Colorado and 75
th-ranked Oral Roberts. In addition to UH and host Wyoming, the rest of the field includes Cal Baptist, CSU Fullerton, Cal Poly, CSU Northridge, College of the Desert, Drake, East Texas A&M, Eastern Washington, Maryland, Northern Iowa, Omaha, Sacramento State Seattle, Southern Utah, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, Utah Tech, and Valparaiso.
Participants will play 54 holes, 18 on each day at the 7,305-yard, par-72 course. Shotgun start begin at 8:00 a.m. PT each day.
The tournament is a preview of the Big West Championship with seven Big West teams competing. Cal Poly is the highest ranked team in the field at No. 149. UH enters the tournament ranked No. 175 in the latest Scoreboard rankings.
The Rainbow Warriors are coming off an 18
th place finish at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Līhu'e, Kaua'i. The Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate is UH's third tournament in the spring among six events prior to the Big West Championship.
