Ostrowski, Nelson Sweep Big West Swim/Dive Athlete of the Week Awards

IRVINE, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i swimming teams swept the Big West Athlete of the Week awards for the second consecutive week. On Tuesday, The Big West announced that Karol Ostrowski was named the winner of the men's award, while Holly Nelson earned the women's weekly award for the Rainbow Wahine. For Ostrowski, it marked the second career weekly conference award and the third for the Warriors this season (Mario Surkovic, Oct. 7 and Tim Brown, Dec. 3). For the Rainbow Wahine, Nelson earned her second Athlete of the Week Award this season and the third for the 'Bows in the 2025-26 season.

Hawai'i battled BYU in a dual meet on Jan. 3rd. Ostrowski led the Rainbow Warriors, winning four golds in the four events he entered (50 Free (19.63); 50 Back (21.49); a personal best in the 50 Fly (20.91) and he swam leadoff in the gold-winning 400 free relay, with a split of 43.68 to give the 'Bows a solid lead that they would never relinquish.

Nelson captured three individual golds while earning a silver swimming the anchor lead of the 400 free relay. Nelson recorded wins in the 50 fly (24.07), 100 free (49.72) and 50 free (22.84). Her 50 fly time of 24.07 ranks her at No. 37 in the NCAA DI this year and is the fastest time swam in the Big West this year.
