Men's Basketball Heads To UC San Diego For Big West Showdown

LA JOLLA, Calif.   The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team looks to remain undefeated in conference play when it takes on defending Big West regular-season and tournament champions UC San Diego on Saturday, Jan. 3. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m. PT/5:00 p.m. HT at LionTree Arena.

The Rainbow Warriors (11-2) are riding a seven-game win streak and improved to 3-0 in the Big West with a resounding 88-45 win at UC Riverside on New Year's Day. UC San Diego (11-3) built an impressive 10-2 non-conference record but dropped to 1-1 in league following a 67-65 upset loss at Cal Poly on Thursday.

NEWS & NOTES
  • UH improved to 3-0 in league play after a historic 88-45 win at UC Riverside that marked the team's largest margin of victory ever on the road, as well as largest-ever Big West win.
  • The 'Bows are seeking a 4-0 Big West start for the first time since the 2021-22 team went 6-0.
  • A win on Saturday would also give UH its eighth straight win overall which would match the longest streak in the Eran Ganot era (also 2015-16).
  • UCSD, like Hawa'i, has a league-high 11 wins, but is coming off a 67-65 upset loss at Cal Poly.
  • The Tritons handed the 'Bows their worst-loss ever (83-44) in Big West play during UH's last visit to La Jolla in February 2025.
  • Former Rainbow Warrior Tom Beattie is currently the Triton's second-leading scorer (11.4) and distributor (3.4 apg) while adding 5.4 rpg.
  • UH is in the top 25 nationally in eight different categories including the top 10 in scoring defense (8th, 61.7), FG% defense (9th, .374) and 3FG% defense (7th, .267).
  • UH has trailed for just 41 out of 480 possible minutes in its last 12 games.
